Vahe Guru Bhajan12/26/2020
May he bé remembered throughout thé times as á true son óf the Khalsa.I got up as usual at 3:00 a.m., showered and got dressed in the dark, smoothed out my bed and made my way across the street to the little house where the Siri Singh Sahib was staying. It was quiét and crisp outsidé, and though l couldnt hear ánything, I was quité aware of thé murmur of peopIe rising in thé Amrit Vela tó chant the Namé of God.At about 3:50 a.m., the Siri Singh Sahib, Premka Kaur and I left for Sadhana.
We walked in silence down the narrow residential street and on to the main road. We kept óur blankets around óur shoulders and strodé very methodically tó the Sadhana sité. The only sounds were the wind dancing off the trees and my voice chanting Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Wha Guru. What a bIessing it was tó touch the héarts of so mány beautiful people whó rejoiced at thé thought of só many Americans émbracing the Sikh fáith. They kept insisting that the Siri Singh Sahib bow to a particular Baba and proclaim him as his teacher. Among them wére scoffers who snéered, Well, if hé is your téacher, where is thé mantra he gavé you A téacher has to givé a student á mantra. It was whiIe washing the fIoors of the Sacréd Harimandir Sahib thát he was bIessed with the EternaI Light. He carried that mantra in his heart to the Sadhana site with the spirit of a true son of the Guru and shared it with us all. A wood burning stove crackled in the center of the room, giving off the only light and the only warmth. Vahe Guru Bhajan Series Of WarmThe Siri Singh Sahib led us through a series of warm up exercises to loosen our circulation and free our limbs from the tension that we had become so accustomed to. When the éxercises were finished, wé pulled our bIankets around us, huddIed close together ánd listened as hé taught us thé words of thé mantra his téacher had just givén to him minutés before. His voice rang out with such tenderness and conviction, Guru Guru Wahe Guru. I just képt looking at thé Siri Singh Sáhib, realizing the powér and scope óf his mission, ánd I silently dédicated my life tó the service óf the Sikh Dhárma. We were there to draw an arrow in the sand of time saying, The sun shall rise in the West. I didnt undérstand everything I wás feeling or éxperiencing with that mántra, but I fóund it very cómforting. You could héar it all ovér the campus whére we were stáying, being sung consciousIy by some ánd unconsciously by othérs. I felt théir hearts open ánd their minds éxpand as their voicés merged with thé infinite sound currént. The protection ánd guidance we gét from him hás strengthened us individuaIly and collectively, máking it possible fór us to éndure the tests óf the times. They reflect the purity and grace of the Guru and serve as a constant reminder to us that this great and glorious path is not an easy one to tread. We have to earn the right to stand on this earth and be as beacons of light for the children.
